BLOG: I was blown away by the Purple Army!

September 10, 2018

Head Coach Pete Russell is sponsored by Lexus Glasgow.

We are heading on the road and sea this coming weekend to take on two very good teams in the shape of the Challenge Cup champions the Belfast Giants and EIHL runners-up the Manchester Storm.

Two very different challenges, but two challenges that we are looking forward to. We will have to be at our very best to bring some points back to Glasgow. Our discipline will have to be better and our performance will have to be assured and solid. We must be ready to compete for 120 minutes with or without the puck. On the road it’s about staying in games and taking chances when we get them.

Last weekend we had many positives but we all know overall that we have to be better on the road to get the results we all want. I was blown away by the numbers of travelling Purple Army. You were fantastic and we will do everything in our power to give you the guys something to cheer about and make your journeys enjoyable experiences.

On Saturday night we faced Fife and despite a slow start to the game, we managed to hang in and worked our way back into the game. From 2-0 down at the end of the second period we battled back to lead 4-3 until Fife scored on the final buzzer. In the end, the game was decided in a shoot out and we fell short. As a team we put in a hell of a lot into the game to work our way back into it, in a very tough building. It just wasn’t to be!

On Sunday we travelled to Dundee and it was a tight one right to the end. It was a cagey game but unfortunately one in which we fell short. We couldn’t get our offence going and lost because of that. In my eyes when we keep teams to two goals we have to be finding ways to win. I believe over the next few games our lines will start clicking offensively.

Yes there were positives and negatives from the weekend but it would have been way sweeter to come back with more than one point. It’s early and we know we have things to work on, but we have a great group of guys who will continue to work hard to find there best games and our team will continue to further develop our systems in all areas.

As everyone knows, there will be no easy nights in this league and especially on the road. We have a week to recover from the weekend, to work hard on the ice, work hard off the ice and review our performances in detail.

Thanks for your support.

Pete
