CROSSING THE LINES – GLASGOW CLAN vs MILTON KEYNES LIGHTNING

In the second home game of the weekend, Glasgow Clan are visited by Milton Keynes Lightning and because of their relatively new status in the Elite League, players to have played for both are a bit thin on the ground.

But here’s who we have anyway…

BARI McKENZIE (LIGHTNING 2003-06; CLAN 2015-18)

Bari’s career actually started off in Milton Keynes back in 2003 in the English Premier League and quickly established himself as part of a success team under Nick Poole.

McKenzie picked up three play-off titles and two league titles from his three years there before discovered the Elite League.

He arrived in Glasgow in 2015 in time for the club’s Champions Hockey League campaign and won the Gardiner Conference, making under 200 appearances in purple.

Bari left for Fife in the summer, but his effort was always appreciated by the fans and remains popular now.

JORDAN COWNIE (LIGHTNING 2013-17; CLAN 2016)

Jordan moved to Lightning from Peterborough Phantoms in 2013, looking to make his name in the game and did well for them during his time there.

He worked under current Clan coach Pete Russell at Lightning and after a brief spell in Glasgow under Ryan Finnerty, consisting of just nine appearances, he returned to MK.

He helped them win the EPL Cup and play-offs in his final season as Lightning signed off from the now defunct league with silverware.

Jordan didn’t follow them into the Elite League and instead joining hometown club, Dundee Stars, where he is currently making himself a key player.

JOHN CONNOLLY (CLAN 2010; LIGHTNING 2015)

Connolly joined the Clan from Edinburgh Capitals ahead of the club’s first season under Bruce Richardson and was part of the ‘Originals’ team in 2010.

He never saw the season through and moved to Slough Jets in January 2011, who were coached by young go-getter by the name of Pete Russell.

The Paisley-born defenceman signed for Lightning in January 2015 and stayed with them for the rest of the EPL season, making 26 appearances and scoring once.

Connolly now plays for the London Raiders in NIHL, where he is an alternate captain and has been there for three years now.
