Glasgow Clan 5 – 2 Fife Flyers

Matt Beca’s return to action kicked off another good night as Glasgow Clan secured a 5-2 win over Fife Flyers in the latest chapter of this great rivalry.

Flyers had yet to beat the Clan this season and were keen to buck that trend on the back of a good win themselves against Cardiff last night.

But it wasn’t to be, despite them taking a third period lead that quickly evaporated and meant another night of celebration for the Clan support.

For Beca, back after an 11-game absence, took a minute and a half to get his name on the scoresheet after his spells on the sidelines.

He got the final touch from a probing effort from Matt Pufahl and Fife goalie Adam Morrison found himself beaten early on.

Patrick Killeen, up the other end, had to be on his toes as he made an excellent double save to deny Chase Schaber then plunge to stop Paul Crowder from capitalising on the rebound.

The visitors got themselves level soon after as Schaber teed up Danick Gauthier, who executed a close range finish to square the game.

Nolan LaPorte almost put the home side in front when he found himself through on Morrison as Clan enjoyed a powerplay, but he pulled his effort wide.

Flyers managed to edge themselves in front when Scott Aarssen’s delivery from the left got a final touch from Kyle Just and the away fans were starting to dream of what could have been a big away win.

However Clan didn’t panic and remained focussed on the task at hand as Mikael Lidhammar got enough of a touch to sneak the puck over the Fife line to level the game at 2-2.

From there, Glasgow found another gear as Linden Springer set up LaPorte, who shimmied inside and delivered a low finish to edge the home side in front.

Then Springer provided again, this time for Chad Rau at the blue line as he bulleted in a shot to open a two-goal lead.

But Springer got in on the scoring action himself with the empty net goal and seal what turned into another good win at home for Glasgow Clan
