GLASGOW CLAN MATCH REPORT: GLASGOW CLAN 5 FIFE FLYERS 2

Glasgow Clan rounded off 2018 in style as they ran out comfortable winners in a 5-2 Hogmanay win over Fife Flyers.

The sell out crowd were ready for a massive game and it was the Flyers fans who got some early cheer when they took the lead with a minute and a half on the clock.

A low diagonal shot from Marcus Basara beat Clan goalie Joel Rumpel on his glove side and the away support were on their feet in celebration.

They could have made it a second shortly after when a Rumpel error left his goal gaping, but the home netminder recovered to dive and block Chad Smith’s chance, which looked certain to be a goal.

Both teams traded blows on goal in an entertaining opening period, but couldn’t quite get the breakthrough.

However Clan left it late in the first period to level when Gerard Hanson moved in from the left to tuck the puck past Fife goalie Shane Owen with a second to go.

The excitement level didn’t relent in the second period as both teams worked to try and improve the scoreline from their point of view.

It was the Clan who got the go-ahead goal when Matt Stanisz found Scott Pitt moving into a position in front of the crease and he did well in dragging it round Owen and dinked it underneath to put the home side in front.

Then they added a third when Stanisz set up Vaclav Stupka, who managed to force in from close range, with the goal line technology verifiying its legality.

Immediately after the goal, Stanisz and Brett Bulmer got involved in a scrap that only turn the volume up even more in the white hot atmosphere of Braehead Arena.

Matt Beca swept away Tyson Wilson’s rebound, initially saved by Owen to put the home side further ahead in the early stages of the third.

Then Clan increased the lead to four to make it 5-1 as Brendan Connolly forced the puck in at the far post on the powerplay.

Brett Bulmer pulled one back after blocking Stanisz’s effort, creating an opening for him at the other end to apply the finish.

In the end, Flyers couldn’t find a way back as Glasgow took the points in another high octane clash between the Scottish rivals.
