Fife Flyers 6 Glasgow Clan 4

Glasgow Clan started the weekend on a disappointing note as Fife Flyers picked up their first win of the season over their big rivals.

It was the start of a testing weekend for the Clan as they looked to keep their spot at the top of the league and going to their biggest rivals was always going to provide a big test.

But it was a night of great entertainment for the watching fans as the goals rained in on either side, even if the emotion once the action had concluded was contrasting.

An early chance from James Livingston needed Patrick Killeen, in Glasgow’s goal, to scoop it out of the air with his glove.

The opening goal came courtesy of the Clan as Jordan Heywood steered a shot into the net after the puck landed kindly for him, as he waited in a good position.

Zack Fitzgerald’s side were two up shortly after when Glasgow hit Flyers with a quick attached that saw Craig Moore set up Nolan LaPorte for his fourth goal in four games.

A few minutes later Fife were on the scoreboard with their first as Tim Crowder tapped in after great work from Danick Gauthier saw him get a shot in that Killeen saved, but couldn’t hold.

Flyers equalised a couple of minutes later as Mike Cazzola rifled a shot in at an angle that beat the Clan goalie and the momentum was swinging towards the home team.

They got themselves in front within a minute later to end the opening session 3-2 up as Gauthier drove into the Clan zone and teed up Crowder for his second and turn the game around in Fife’s favour.

The second period produced much of the same, with both sides going at it with Glasgow hitting back as Rasmus Bjerrum finished a chance off on the powerplay to level things once again.

Just when Clan had got themselves level, the Flyers retook the lead as Mike Cazzola hits the roof of the Clan net from an angle, with a little help from Messrs Gauthier and Crowder.

The Kirkcaldy men opened up a two-goal lead as Carlo Finucci laid it off nicely for James Livingston who hit a one-timer into the net and the home fans were going wild.

Clan reacted well to the latest setback as Matt Pufahl’s effort found its way into the net to reduce the deficit, but still needing quite a push in the third to turn the game around again.

Some penalty trouble with five minutes to go saw Matt Stanisz and Mikael Lidhammar both in the box and it helped give the home side a boost as they looked for the killer blow.

It came from a former Clan hero in Scott Aarssen, who blasted in a shot into the roof of the net to secure two big points for Todd Dutiaume’s men.
