FIFE FLYERS 3 GLASGOW CLAN 2 (AFTER OVERTIME)

Glasgow Clan made it three points from four in their double header with Fife Flyers, but suffered an overtime 3-2 loss in Kirkcaldy.

A win for Clan would have officially ended Fife’s hopes of regaining the Gardiner Conference title, but for now, it keeps them in it, but the Flyers can’t drop any more points in their final four games to have any chance of repeating their achievement from last season.

It was also Glasgow’s first loss in the Conference this season and extends their run of having lost in regulation time in only one game from their last 12.

Craig Peacock opened the scoring for the visitors eight minutes into the contest when Fife goalie Shane Owen spilled, with the Clan #71 on hand to tuck away the rebound.

Fife levelled shortly after on the powerplay as Evan Bloodoff did well to bury the loose puck and both teams were serving up another interesting game.

Clan restored their advantage almost four minutes later when Tyson Wilson pounced on a slack pass from Ricards Birzins, before setting up Rasmus Bjerrum with a comfortable finish.

However the home side were level again before the first break, again on the powerplay as Mike Cazzola’s effort hit the back boards and rebounded out for Bloodoff to execute.

Glasgow goalie Joel Rumpel made a key save from Brett Bulmer in the second period to keep the scoreline level as the Flyers look to edge ahead.

There were no further goals as Fife’s hopes of keeping alive their Gardiner title hopes as the game moved into overtime, firmly in the balance.

But Carlo Finucci delivered a gutsy finish shorthanded to send the extra point Fife’s way, with the visitors taking solace from their point in a notoriously difficult venue.
