Two goals from Josh Gratton helped Glasgow Clan take both points in a 5-2 win at Nottingham Panthers.

It followed on from last week’s victory at Manchester Storm as Clan opened their league season with two straight wins.

The visitors enjoyed some early chances in the opening stages, with Gratton trying a wraparound that was thwarted by Michael Garnett in the Panthers goal.

Justin Kovacs also went close for the home team shortly after, but was given short shrift by Joel Rumpel, between the pipes for the Glasgow side.

Clan opened the scoring when Vaclav Stupka continued on his impressive form from last week to find the net – his third goal in three games.

However, Dylan Olsen got the equaliser as he dashed in from the blue line and sent a shot in glove side to bring Nottingham level three minutes from the end of the first.

Glasgow took the lead a couple of minutes into the second period as Gratton was assisted by Stupka to give them a slight edge.

Then the visitors had opened up a two-goal lead as Brendan Connolly got on the scoresheet as the momentum of the game shifted.

Scott Pitt added a fourth seconds into the third stanza to make the lead a bit more comfortable, although Panthers almost hit straight back in retaliation, but Rumpel was equal to Stevie Lee’s effort.

With ten minutes to go, Alex Guptill got one on the board to make things a little more interesting as the game built to an exciting climax.

Garnett was pulled in favour of the extra attacker in the final couple of minutes, but the gamble didn’t quite work for them as Gratton’s second of the night on the empty net secured victory for Pete Russell and his team.
