BELFAST GIANTS 4 GLASGOW CLAN 1

Glasgow Clan suffered a second straight loss at Belfast Giants in the second of their three-game series – but remain third in the Elite League standings.

Nottingham Panthers’ defeat to Sheffield Steelers keeps the Clan in the top three, but it was another loss to follow up from Thursday’s Challenge Cup Semi Final clash.

The night didn’t get off to the best of starts when Kyle Baun set up Darcy Murphy to put them a goal up on the powerplay in the opening minute.

Colin Shields added a second in the first period when he latched on to a loose puck from Dustin Johner’s shot, which the Scot tucked away.

The night wasn’t to improve as Adam Keefe’s side went three up without reply in the middle period, when a shot into the roof of the net from the Giants captain Blair Riley made life a little harder for the visitors.

Jack Musil, however, gave the fans something to cheer about when scored to cut the lead down to two and provide something of a glimmer of hope.

But with three minutes to go, David Rutherford finished things off when he was set up by Jordan Smotherman, finishing into the top of the net after a surge forward.

Both sides will complete the trilogy tomorrow when the Giants visit Glasgow, face off 4pm.
