GAME REPORT: Clan suffer ill-disciplined defeat at MK

Glasgow Clan’s hopes of making it three wins in a row were ended when Milton Keynes Lightning ended what had been a troubled day with a 6-1 home win.

Earlier in the day, MK coach Doug McKay was announced as having left the club, but it seemed to fire their players up, with Clan the team on the receiving end.

The home side were ahead in the first few minutes as Robbie Baillargeon finished from just outside the crease after being set up by Eric Neiley.

Tim Wallace added a second with a powerful shot shortly after, rifling in at the right side face off circle from Andreas Valdix’s cut back.

Clan hit back before the end of the first as Matt Stanisz took advantage of a ‘Too Many Men’ call, scoring on the powerplay to halve the deficit as the first session ended.

Wallace added his second and MK’s third seven minutes into the middle session when Michael Fine fed the puck to him at the blue line, sending the shot into the net.

The former Sheffield Steelers man completed his hat-trick as Clan tried to kill a five-on-three penalty, with another shot beating Joel Rumpel in the visitors’ goal to make it 4-1.

It became something of a bad tempered affair as Zack Fitzgerald and Radek Meidl came together that saw the Clan captain ejected from the game.

Then Brendan Connolly and MK’s Cole Shudra got involved, with Shudra also sent to the locker room while Connolly took a ten minute misconduct penalty.

Lightning add to their lead eight minutes into the third period when Neiley scored the fifth, effectively sealing the points for the home side.

They made sure a couple of minutes later when Clan lost possession, allowing Georgs Golovkovs to skate in down the inside left and finish past Rumpel for the sixth.

Connolly hit the post with an effort as Glasgow looked to salvage something by way of pride, but the shot wasn’t quite on target as MK ended a tough day on a positive note.
