Glasgow Clan saw their hopes of taking a win from German opponents dashed as Dresdner Eislöwen took victory in a 5-1 success.

Glasgow had their chances in the first period as they tested their German opponents with a few chances to keep Dresden goalie Sebastien Stefaniszin busy.

Brendan Connolly tried one from the inside right, while Scott Pitt was unfortunate not to see his low effort end up over the line.

Up the other end, Gary Russell, after a man of the match performance against Fischtown Pinguins, kept that form going when he denied a close range Thomas Pielmeier chance.

Then Harrison Reed found himself on a breakaway for Eislöwen after emerging from the penalty box, but found himself outfoxed by Russell.

Matt Beca tried one from the left, but could do no better than hit the side netting as the home side tried to turn some powerplay pressure to their advantage.

The visitors took the lead on the powerplay as a loose puck fell nicely for Christian Billich to finish low past the Clan goalie.

Clan got their first goal of the season when Connolly sent a low pass into the centre, where Rasmus Bjerrum poked it into the net.

The Germans restored their lead a little later when Harrison Reed sent a shot in past Russell’s near post.

Then Dresden were 3-1 in front by the end of the second when captain Rene Kramer set up Steve Hanusch to score.

A chance from Jack Musil was promising, were it not for Stefaniszin’s glove save, but the visitors killed the game off to make it 4-1 as Jordan Knackstedt finished from in front of the crease.

Then Reed got his second, set up by Knackstedt as Dresden completed a good night’s work to give Clan coach Pete Russell some food for thought.
