DUNDEE STARS 3 GLASGOW CLAN 4 (OT)

Glasgow Clan are a point away from bringing the Gardiner Conference title back after needing overtime to sink Dundee Stars 4-3 in a tight encounter on Tayside.

A victory in this game would have confirmed the Conference win for Clan after a year at Fife Flyers, but Dundee were in no mood to roll over.

After losing to Milton Keynes Lightning on penalty shots on Saturday, the Stars were determined to get something from the weekend.

A couple of early opportunities from Matt Marquardt threatened the Clan net, but couldn’t find a way through, but it was the visitors that broke the deadlock.

Matt Stanisz’s shot was blocked by Pontus Sjogren in the Stars net, but Gerard Hanson was there to tuck away the rebound.

It didn’t take long for Dundee to equalise when they successfully sprung on a breakaway, with Charles Corcoran one-on-one with Joel Rumpel, which he duly finished off.

By the end of the period, the Clan were back in front with Guillaume Doucet scoring after he was set up by Zack Fitzgerald.

Omar Pacha’s side didn’t take long to respond early in the second period when Lukas Lundvald slotted his effort underneath Rumpel and the game was level again.

Marquardt finally got his goal with a blue line shot that fizzed into the net and the home side had edged themselves ahead, but the lead didn’t last long.

Scott Tanski were back on level terms with a shorthanded goal within a minute later and the game entered the third period finely poised.

It was a tale of two goalies as Sjogren and Rumpel did their bit to preserve their respective nets and managed to keep them well guarded as the game moved into overtime.

Matt Beca stepped up in overtime with a well taken shot into the roof of the net to take the result, meaning Clan can not only take the Gardiner crown on Tuesday when Dundee come to Glasgow, but can overtake Nottingham Panthers into third place with a home win in what is shaping up to be the biggest week of the season.
