GLASGOW CLAN MATCH REPORT: GLASGOW CLAN 3 MANCHESTER STORM 4

A late goal from Manchester Storm’s Ciaran Long with three seconds from time denied Glasgow Clan a sixth straight win in an edgy seven-goal thriller.

For the second time in two nights, both Clan and Storm met to do battle with two points up for grabs, with Glasgow having won the first of the double header.

While the first period had plenty of chances and a couple of borderline fiery moments, there were no goals to speak of.

Clan piled on the pressure in the early stages in an attempt to get an advantage, but found Matt Ginn, the Manchester goalie, in a stubborn mood.

Vaclav Stupka had arguably the best chance of the period when he surged through the centre, but found his effort blocked.

Then Matt Beca was quick to try and convert the rebound, however Ginn recovered well and redirected the effort wide.

The first goal found its way in within the opening minute of the second period when Dallas Ehrhardt’s shot from the blue line was blocked by Clan goalie Joel Rumpel, but Evan Richardson was there to tuck away the rebound.

Ginn denied Brendan Connolly what looked to be a sure-fire equaliser when his sweeping one-time effort looked destined for the net, only for the Storm netminder to fly across the face of his goal and divert it away with his leg pads.

It took a few more minutes for the home side to finally get that leveller when Connolly finished at close range on the powerplay after Beca passed in from the left side face off circle.

Manchester restored their lead 23 seconds later as Mike Hammond drilled in from the left, with Ciaran Long tucking away the rebound in the slot.

But it was honours even by the end of the second as Connolly danced away from a Storm D-man, made his way into the centre and forced the puck in for a highlights reel goal.

Mike Hammond thought he had done enough to force the puck over the line, but the goal was washed out by goal line technology.

However Evan Richardson got his second of the game, with a final touch from Linden Springer’s delivery into the centre to put Storm in front once more.

Although Craig Peacock levelled again with a third goal to keep things tight, it was a late show as the game went down to the wire.

Connolly took a seat in the penalty box for roughing with 43 seconds to go and it proved to be decisive as Long’s second of the game, forced in at the far post that proved to be the difference.

Clan will get the chance to bounce back when they host Fife Flyers on Hogmanay in a sell-out encounter.
