GUILDFORD FLAMES 4 GLASGOW CLAN 2

Two goals from Scott Tanski gave Glasgow Clan a route back into the game, but in the end it wasn’t enough as Guildford Flames took a 4-2 win at the Spectrum.

Keen to get the points back after losing 6-3 at Nottingham Panthers, Clan went to a venue where they’ve never won in the Spectrum and unfortunately, it wasn’t to be on this occasion either.

It took only two minutes for Paul Dixon’s side to open the scoring when Jamie Crooks took advantage to slot home an unassisted goal and they were off and running.

Joel Rumpel had made some important saves to keep Clan in it throughout the first period and Flames kept the pressure going early in the second. In the end, Guildford found a way through again.

A Calle Ackered shot flew into the net four minutes after the restart and Glasgow were finding their weekend was gradually turning worse.

They were up against a team on a five-game winning run and their netminder, Travis Fullerton, was eyeing up a third shutout against his old team as he made key saves to keep Flames unbreached.

While he was doing that, another former Clan man put them three ahead as Ben Davies had space to fire in his shot and it looked even better for the home side.

Rumpel, despite a decent display, made way for Gary Russell for the third period and the men in purple responded to give themselves a lifeline.

Tanski finished off a close range rebound to close the gap to two, with the review going in Clan’s favour.

The visitors got some badly needed momentum in the final period and Tanski got his second to set up a tense climax.

Gary Russell was pulled with a couple of minutes to go, but John Dunbar scoring on the empty net ensured the points were staying in Surrey.
