GLASGOW CLAN MATCH REPORT: COVENTRY BLAZE 6 GLASGOW CLAN 5 (AFTER PENALTY SHOTS)

Glasgow Clan picked up a point on the road as they went down in penalty shots to Coventry Blaze in a dramatic game at the Skydome.

With three wins on the bounce, Clan travelled south looking to complete a four-point weekend, but a late comeback from Danny Stewart’s side that, having to make do with three points instead.

Thom Flodqvist fired into the top shelf to give the home side the lead just over five minutes into the game, but by the end of the opening period, Clan had turned the game in their favour.

Matt Beca’s finish from Scott Pitt’s assist drew the teams level on 13 minutes then Beca returned the favour by setting up Pitt for the second and Clan were 2-1 up with 24 seconds of the opening session to go.

An unassisted marker from Matt Haywood on his 496th Clan appearance increased the lead to two, but Luke Ferrara pulled one back for Coventry soon after.

Glasgow restored the two-goal advantage at the back end of the middle session with Guillaume Doucet finally scoring his first goal for the club.

It was looking good for the visitors at that point and was made even better by Vaclav Stupka adding a fifth within the first five minutes of the third period and it seemed as though the points were Clan’s to lose.

However the game was turned on its head in a bizarre 66 second spell in the final three minutes that changed things completely.

Frodqvist picked up his second goal and Coventry’s third which seemed to ignite something in them as momentum started to swing in their favour.

Ross Venus then brought Blaze to within one as Clan fans started to get nervous, quickly followed by Ben Lake adding a fifth to tie the game and earn Blaze what seemed an unlikely point just a minute before.

The contest moved into overtime then to penalty shots where Flodqvist was the only scorer to complete a great night for him and for Coventry, leaving Clan to reflect on a three-point haul for their efforts this weekend.
