The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce an extension to our partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University for the 2019/20 season.

The agreement between the Clan and GCU, has resulted in players from across the Atlantic combining their sport ambitions with educational advancement.

The partnership has helped secure three players for the 2019/20 season, with Chad Rau, Jordan Heywood and Matt Pufahl playing professional ice hockey whilst completing MBA’s (Master of Business Administration) with the University.

American professional player Chad Rau joined the Clan this season from Slovakian club Slovan Bratislava. Rau has had an impressive career, and in recent season’s has been plying his trade in the Kontinental Hockey League (arguably the second best league in the world).

Rau said: “It’s a huge advantage to be able to complete my education and play hockey, as you can’t play forever.

“One of the things that brought me here is the city of Glasgow, its people, and the University, which both looked exactly what I was looking for. That was a big factor in coming here to the Clan as well as the organisation who have been superb with us.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for players to continue their playing careers while gaining valuable further education – it’s a balancing act to make sure you can do both aspects though. I am looking forward to getting started at the GCU and having an exciting and successful season on the ice with the Clan.

Glasgow Clan Chief Operating Officer Gareth Chalmers commented: “We are delighted to once again be working with Glasgow Caledonian University, as our official higher education provider.

“The partnership has certainly provided us with greater scope in attracting players, particularly from North America.

“It’s attractive to them to come to Glasgow and to combine their studies. GCU was pivotal is helping us recruit high calibre players such as Chad Rau, Jordan Heywood and Matt Pufahl to the Clan.

“In addition to the provision of these study places we will be working closely with the University and its students on a range of projects over the next few months.“

Head of Content and Multimedia, Helenor Landsburgh welcomed the players to GCU, suggesting: “As the University for the Common Good, we pride ourselves in offering students a truly global educational experience and are delighted that Chad, Jordan and Matt are here to join our wonderful student community.

“I am sure they will thrive at GCU and am proud that we can support them as they achieve their educational aspirations. I look forward to building on the relationship with the Clan over the coming year and watching the players flourish.”
