NEWS: Purple Army made an impression on Corey

July 15, 2016

intu Braehead Clan’s recent signing Corey Cowick admits he’s been blown away by the messages from the fans.

The 26-year-old was announced as signing number 13 last week as Ryan Finnerty starts to put the finishing touches to his team.

And Cowick revealed he and his wife, Marijke can’t wait to see what Scotland has to offer when they arrive next month.

“The outpouring of welcomes from the fans has been crazy,” Cowick laughed. “I can’t believe the amount of messages I’ve received and it makes me all the more excited to come.

“I’ve got quite a few new followers on my Twitter account and I think my wife is jealous because I’ve had more new people than she has in total.

“Just judging by the support the fan base, you know the organisation has to be top notch or it wouldn’t have that kind of following.

“I’m looking forward to immersing myself in the culture and now I have a big decision over whether I’m going to be a Celtic fan or a Rangers fan.

“Making a move like this requires an open mind. To me, there’s no point in coming over and living a Canadian life in Scotland. It’s not going to be the same.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how the people of Scotland welcome us and how our lives will change when I’m over there.”

Cowick, who played for ECHL side Florida Everblades last season is keen to get some goals and assists on the board.

He admits it’s something he’s keen to do after being asked to fulfil a different kind of role at his previous teams and he insists his hunger to pick up points is still there.

Cowick added: “When I played major junior hockey, I put up some good points then when I was drafted and turned pro, I got labelled into a role player and didn’t get the same opportunities I had.

“I’m looking forward to taking on that role again. I know it’s in there with me and haven’t really been able to flourish with it.

“I’m certainly delighted to be leaned on as an offensive player with my game and I look forward to the challenge.”
