SIGNING NEWS: Clan secure signature of KHL all-star forward…

The Glasgow Clan are delighted to announce that American forward and former KHL All-Star Chad Rau has joined the Clan for the 2019/20 season.

The 32-year-old forward was drafted in 2005, round #7 (228 overall), by the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs.

Rau, from Illinois has led an illustrious career icing in the some of the world’s top leagues including the NHL with the Minnesota Wild, the KHL with four teams including Chinese franchise Kunlun Red Star, the AHL with Iowa Wild and the Liiga with SaiPa.

Chad joins us from HC Slovan Bratislava where he spent the 2018/19 season icing in the KHL with the team from the Slovakian capital.

Chad scored two goals in 9 NHL games, scoring against the Dallas Stars and the Boston Bruins, the latter of which was a goal into then Vezina Trophy holder Tim Thomas.

In the KHL, Chad has amassed 73 points in 159 regular-season games and in the AHL 153 points in 327 regular-season games. Rau’s most impressive points per game is his record in the Finnish Liiga where he achieved 60 points in 86 games including 28 goals in the 2015/16 season, enough to make him top goalscorer in the division that year ahead of now NHL stars Sebastian Aho & Patrick Laine.

During his time with the Clan, Chad will carry out an MBA with our partners, Glasgow Caledonian University.

Chad will wear #5 during the upcoming season.

Chad becomes the Clan’s twentieth player and penultimate signing for 2019/20, following confirmation that Patrick Killeen, Matt Pufahl, Matt Beca, Rasmus Bjerrum, Jack Musil, Craig Peacock, Scott Pitt, Scott Tanski, Craig Moore, Linden Springer, Jordan Heywood, Jordan McLaughlin, Mikael Lidhammar, Nolan LaPorte, Mathieu Roy, Gary Russell, Mac Howlett, Travis Ehrhardt and Matt Stanisz having already put pen to paper.
